How to beat LinkedIn? Justin Welsh Course Review

How many times did you try to be active on LinkedIn and got burned out?

“This isn’t working, this isn’t worth my valuable time. I’m DONE.”

How many times did you say that to yourself?

I know I’ve said that a couple of times.

I don’t mind sharing my defeats, that way I and you can learn from them.

So I did what any other person would do.

I searched for a couple of LinkedIn gurus who have mastered the game to follow.

I decided to follow a bunch of people and see how they do it, but I came up empty-handed.

“Why are there posts doing so well and mine is dead?” I asked.

And it hit me, okay so let’s see what courses on mastering the LinkedIn game there’s out there.

I found Justin’s course and another course also.

I said “Ah to hell with it, let’s pay and see if we’ll master this platform or not”

And I enrolled, I just finished it yesterday so my review is as fresh as it gets.

His course is divided into 7 sections.

Each section has videos and PDFs in it.

I’ll talk about each heading and what do you find in it.

It’s your decision to make, is this course worth your time?

Is it?

Introduction

So Justin starts this section by introducing himself and what’s this course all about, etc, etc.

Nothing important in this section so we’ll move on to the next section.

Laying the Foundation

Now we’re getting into the action!

In this section, Justin goes over 2 things

  • Defining your niche
  • Establishing your character

Let’s start with defining your niche.

To be successful on LinkedIn, you really need to focus on a certain topic.

Don’t be a generalist, choose a niche and stick with it!

Now you might have that question of “How do I define my niche” or “What if I have multiple niches?”

That question Justin has answered that in the PDF he included with this lesson.

Now let’s move to the second point which is establishing your character.

Who’s the man behind the account? What’s his story?

That question will help you establish your story and make you more noticeable.

Then you need to have a voice of your own and stick with it.

Be consistent with the way you write, people feel comfortable with things they’re familiar with.

Lastly, choose your topics!

As always Justin gives a Checklist PDF for you to follow so you don’t miss any of the steps, and make sure you’re doing them right.

That’s awesome, let’s move to the next section now.

Your LinkedIn Profile (aka Your Sales Page)

Have you wondered where to start? Well, here’s your answer!

You start by professionalizing Your Profile.

  • The Intro Section
  • The About Section
  • Experience
  • Articles & Activity
  • Education + Licenses & Certifications
  • Skills Endorsements and Recommendations
  • Accomplishments + Interests

Once that’s done, you move to The About Section lesson.

In which he talks about:

  • What Is The About Section And How Can I Take Advantage Of It?
  • Notes And Best Practices For Crafting Your Summary
  • Examples of Linkedin Summaries
  • Adding Media Links To Your Summary

Then Experience.

In this lesson he talks about:

  • Linking Roles to Company Profiles
  • Role Descriptions
  • Choosing Your Format
  • Adding Volunteer Experience

Then Articles & Activity.

In which he talks about:

  • How the Articles & Activity Box Changes With Engagement
  • Basic Activity: Adding Reactions And Commenting On Content
  • Discovering And Following Hashtags
  • Upgrading Your Activity: Writing Your Own Posts
  • Publishing Articles On Linkedin

Education + Licenses & Certifications

In this lesson he talks about:

  • Education
  • Licenses & Certifications
  • Ideas For Enhancing These Sections Of Your Profile

Skills Endorsements and Recommendations

  • Adding Skills To Your Profile

  • Endorsements
  • How To Endorse A Connection
  • Adjusting Your Settings For Skills Endorsements
  • Recommendations

The next section is called Building Your Tribe.

This is as simple as it sounds, but it has lots of good information, tips, and tricks to increase your followers while keeping them high profile.

It also goes over how to get an industry titan to interact with you, be your connection, and even maybe get something from them.

A podcast appearance? An interview? If you do it well. You’ll succeed.

This is one of the most important lessons because it’s tricky to connect with an industry titan, and maybe even ask him for a favor!

That’s just one of the many benefits of being connected to an industry titan.

In the last lesson in this section, Justin covers how can you boost your following with 5 easy and simple tricks that act as an echo chamber for your profile!

Now we move to the heart of the LinkedIn Playbook course, the Creating Content Section!

So in this section, you’ll know all the tips and tricks that Justin uses when writing his posts.

You’ll learn things like “Hooks, Waves, Clickbate headlines, and more”

The last section is called Advanced LinkedIn

This is rather a simple section where Justin goes over things like LinkedIn Articles, voice notes, media, etc.

It was a nice outro after going through the action-intensive lessons of this course.

Conclusion

Now here are my thoughts about this course.

I do like the course because I’m a LinkedIn newbie, I did know some of the things Justin talked about, but other things, no I didn’t.

I started this course like a week ago, I’ve been writing content daily and I can see an upward trend in my stats, which means this is working.

Would I recommend this course to anyone? Probably not.

If you’ve got the LinkedIn game figured out, you’ll feel like you know a lot of stuff, and it won’t be that impacting for you!

But With a price of only $50, it’s a good refresher for you if you’re doing well on LinkedIn.
